Ice Harvest 2023
Millers Mills Ice Harvest for February 12, 2023 Is Off Again
The inconsistent winter weather has once again forced the Millers Mills Ice Harvest to be canceled. Although there is some ice on the pond, the danger is too great for both workers or visitors. The current weather forecast for rain the coming week does not guarantee sufficient ice. The rain will also melt what snow we have left for the sleighs.
The ice harvest was scheduled for Sunday, February 12, 2023. The Millers Mills Grange, which sponsors the event, is one of the few remaining in Herkimer County. The annual ice harvest began as a necessity, was reborn as a fun community event, and grew into a hands on history lesson for the public after Charles Kuralt attended the ice harvest and gave the event national recognition on his TV show, “On the Road with Charles Kuralt”.
The lack of ice will have no effect on the Grange’s Homemade Ice Cream Social scheduled for July 16, 2023.
